It’s insane to me that America, land of the free and home of the brave, is still, not just in a fight to secure voting rights —but living through this historic period where republicans are legislating to remove voting rights.
To honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we must join together in advancement of his work.
What is the work?
Voting rights, yes. The pillar of our democracy is to have our voice heard. To choose and cast a vote to the person we feel most represents our ideas and dreams.
But so much more needs to be addressed.
Stop fighting.
Beyond monstrous and grave criminal attempts to obstruct progress in order to obtain king-like powers is a division cast upon Americans so carefully crafted by a minority of hatred, it’s chilling, reminiscent of eras in history we thought were over. But more importantly this psychological warfare has been swallowed whole by millions. Ensuring nothing less in our nation, our neighborhoods, and even in our homes —than chaos.
The result, aggression fueled by lies has misplaced peoples anger into dirty strategies that don’t address the core problems of our society.
After 40 years of chokeholds on education and opportunity to develop into what the American Dream promised our ancestors —children have grown into adults with abilities to feel, care and listen is at an all-time low.
Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking said aggression would be the downfall of civilization, however he also countered that empathy could course correct it.
Let us focus on those things of building instead of breaking down. Let us realign to the principles of peace and the nurturing of the betterment of society as Dr. King showed us. Let us listen and hear with a heartfelt compassion and a willingness to help one another live their best life possible.
Let us lift each other by affording each other —equality, justice, and hope with courage to choose.
We have to choose.
